DIY PEPPERMINT SUGAR SCRUB
Oh man, this stuff is awesome!
I have say right off the bat, I had nothing to do with today's post. I gotta give 100% of the credit to my 12 year old, Gianna. This creative and crafty little one (okay maybe she's not so little anymore *whimper*) made her mama a jar of this peppermint sugar scrub for Christmas.
Not only was I excited because I love sugar scrubs, but I was blown away that she wanted to make me something so thoughtful and special. She made this all by herself and I had no clue she had made it. She even decorated the lid and put a red bow on it.
This is what I pulled out of my gift bag on Christmas morning.
Can you even take it? Omg I couldn't believe it. Such a heartfelt gift. I absolutely love homemade gifts. They are my favorite gifts to receive. I especially love homemade gifts from my kids. Nothing can beat them. Nothing.
I just couldn't get over that my 12 year old made this. After I wiped my tears from opening it, I quickly opened it up and smelled it... OH MY GOD YES. I love the smell of peppermint. It's in my top five favorite smells ever (along with babies, rain, coffee, and oranges). This sugar scrub smelled so good it made me want to go jump in the shower immediately. But since this was Christmas morning, mama had to start prepping for Christmas dinner and get ready for the big crowd coming. Sugar scrub time didn't come until the next day. But it was worth the wait! It is wonderful! As soon as I got out of the shower I hugged my daughter and told her how amazing her sugar scrub was. She beamed from ear to ear.
Over the course of the next few weeks I ran out of my sugar scrub. I told Gia she needed to make mommy some more. She got excited and asked me, "Do you want me to teach you how to make it?" I, of course, said yes! I asked her if she'd let me feature her in a blog post teaching others how to make the peppermint scrub. I got a big smile and head nod as a response.
We had so much fun together!
So here we are... a blog post powered and inspired by a 12 year old. Pretty awesome if you ask me.
I asked Gia how she learned of this scrub and she told me she saw it on Pinterest. She made a couple changes to the original recipe she found. I am posting the recipe exactly as Gia made it, because that is the scrub I know and love.
She gets her Pinterest love from her mamacita. I have to admit, I'm a little bit addicted to Pinterest (okay, not a little). My daughters were introduced to it because I have a board for each of them on my account and at bedtime we scroll through their special pins that I pin for them.

Making this sugar scrub would be a great activity to do with your preteen and teenaged daughters, granddaughters, nieces, etc. It's so hard to find fun and cool things to do with older girls. The only thing they seem to want to do with grown ups is practice their eye-rolling. This they will be into! You could always make a double batch, one for you and one for your beauty craft partner!
My daughter has made this peppermint scrub with some of her friends who have come over. They've all loved it! Gia is also planning on making this with her friends at her birthday sleepover coming up this weekend.
This sugar scrub would also make a great Valentine's Day gift.

WHATCHU NEED:
1/2 cup COCONUT OIL, melted
1 cup GRANULATED SUGAR
14 drops PEPPERMINT ESSENTIAL OIL
2 PEPPERMINT CANDY CANES (or 10 peppermints)
6 oz MASON JAR (or sealable container)
WHATCHU DO:
1. Break up the candy canes and pulverize in a food processor. Then set them aside.
You will see dust coming out of the FP. This is good! You want dust.
Gia got a kick out of teaching mama bear the ropes.
This is what the candy canes will look like when you're done.
2. Melt the coconut oil in a microwavable dish and then put in medium-large bowl.
3. Add 10 DROPS of peppermint essential oil to the coconut oil. *You will be adding an additional 4 drops later.
4. Add the granulated sugar to your melted coconut oil.
5. Now add your candy cane dust to bowl.
6. Mix it all up!
7. Once it's mixed up, add an additional 4 DROPS of peppermint essential oil and mix again.
Gia discovered that a 6 OUNCE MASON JAR works perfectly. But any sealable container will do.
8. Pack your sugar scrub tightly into your mason jar or container.
An exact fit!
...And there you go! An amazing (and easy) DIY gift made from the heart!
